San Miguel Arcángel Choir
The San Miguel Arcángel Choir was founded in 1991 by a group of choral music enthusiasts from a Neocatechumenal group in our Parish. One of its founders, Miguel Merino Arregui, has been directing the choir since its inception.
Like all choirs, our aim is to perform polyphonic vocal music wherever we are required, with the highest possible quality. Thus, our musical soul is divided into three clear parts.
- Our Commitment to Serving Our Town, Larraga
We participate in all major liturgical celebrations of our community. This includes the Pastorela of Sagastizábal and Christmas carols during the Christmas season. We perform passion music by Bach, Mozart, and Muneta during Holy Week. We take part in various celebrations such as communions, confirmations, weddings, celebrations, and funerals. Additionally, we participate in the events of our patrons, San Miguel and the Holy Christ of Succor. We give several themed concerts throughout the year, both in the Parish and in the House of Culture, among which we can highlight the “Concierto de la Vaca Brava”. We also frequently collaborate with other local associations. - Our Commitment to Singing Auroras
We are the heirs of the tradition of singing auroras on various dates of the calendar, such as Epiphany, St. Joseph’s Day, and St. Cecilia’s Day. We also participate in the annual gathering of auroros in Navarra, which is held each year in a different town of Navarra. - Our Commitment to Traveling, Meeting Other Choirs, and Exchanging Experiences
Over the years, we have conducted exchanges with choirs from all over Navarra and other parts of Spain. We have traveled and performed in various places, such as the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, where we sang the Pilgrim’s Mass with the Hermandad del Rocío, in Fatima, Burgos, León, and St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, Rome, where we performed a mass with music by Navarrese composers.
Currently, we continue with our music, performing a cappella polyphonic works and pieces accompanied by instruments such as the organ, piano, and accordion.
If you wish to join us, you can come to our rehearsals or consult with the director or any choir member.
Miguel Merino Arregui
Miguel Merino Arregui is one of the founders of the San Miguel Arcángel Choir, and he has been directing it since its inception to the present day.
With studies in solfège, choral ensemble, and piano at the Pablo Sarasate Conservatory in Pamplona, he began his work as an organist at the San Miguel Arcángel Parish in Larraga at the age of 13. He also led the parish choir until the age of 19, when he founded the San Miguel Arcángel Choir.
Upon founding the Choir and registering it with the Federation of Choirs of Navarra, he took conducting courses with various masters such as Javier Busto, Julio Domínguez, Aurelio Sagaseta, and Eduardo Correa.
His passion for music in general, and choral music in particular, has led him to not only direct the San Miguel Arcángel Choir of Larraga but also to be a member of the Barañain Abesbatza Choir, the Canta et yanta Choir, and to collaborate with other Navarrese choirs.
As an organist, he is President and co-founder of the Diego Gómez Musical Association, which annually organizes, among many other activities, the prestigious “Diego Gómez Organ Cycle”. He is also the Treasurer of the Navarra Association of Organ Friends (A.N.A.O.) and the organist at the San Miguel Parish in Larraga. Besides offering concerts, he collaborates as an organist and accordionist with various Navarrese groups.
